The Expanding Power of Prayer
There is a wonderful ministry at St. John’s to which everyone is invited: The Prayer Telephone Chain.
When there is an urgent need for prayers for someone, we begin the telephoning and praying. It’s easy and very powerful: You receive a telephone call for a prayer request; you pray; you pick up the phone and telephone the next person in your chain. Sometimes, if you don’t find the person home, you leave a voice mail message regarding the prayer, and then you call the next person.
This is a ministry that can be done without a great deal of effort or time, just with a genuine concern and loving willingness to spread the power of prayer.
If you are interested in joining this prayer team, please call Janet Mize, 761-0783, or email at janetmize@msn.com.
If you are currently on the team, please let Janet know whether or not you would like to continue, so that the Chain will represent the current wishes of all concerned. Thank you.
one of the things that Vestry is praying for, is a speedy influx of funds:
Our long-suffering diocese, has now decided that parishes that are not current in their assessment payments will not be entitled to vote at convention. Now, we’re not saying that St. John’s is one of those types of parish, but the fact is, that, unless we get an injection of, say, $13,000 to be exact, we will not be able to vote at the election of our new bishop in the middle of this year.
We would be grateful to receive larger than normal weekly/monthly payments against pledge. Alternatively, if you feel able to help us balance our books by making a one-time donation, we would be most appreciative.
LENT BEGINS FEBRUARY 21
Join us each Wednesday night during Lent for Soup and Study. Lent serves as our annual invitation to come closer to God. It provides a time to look at our lives and ourselves and to reflect on what stumbling blocks are preventing us from feeling the presence of God everyday.
Beginning on Wed. Feb 28th through March 28th we will gather in the parish hall for table fellowship and study.
